Description:

The Bishkek Feminist Initiatives are a group of feminist activists in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, based on the principles of collective emancipation, solidarity, mutual support, and non-violence. The initiative founded in 2009 as a grass-roots organization, and since then, within its framework, adolescent and research groups, new activist groups, a platform "Together against violence" that united all women's organizations of Kyrgyzstan formed. Today BFI has its own communal home in the city of Bishkek, which activists of the city can visit, work, relax and use the library. The organization is also the initiator and curator of the annual March 8 march, which is attended by many Bishkek organizations and guests from the regions of the country and neighboring republics.

Aims and objectives: 

  • Formation of feminist values ​​among state bodies, business sector, donor organizations, international and national NGOs, media and the population of Kyrgyzstan.
  • Economic empowerment of women and girls and the creation of conditions for self-realization.
  • Increasing the sensitivity of government agencies, the business sector, donor organizations, international and national NGOs and media to non-discrimination issues.
  • Strengthening alliances of Kyrgyz, Central Asian and international feminist, LGBTIQ and women's civil society organizations.

Main activities:

Feminist education, media campaigns, feminist art, advocacy, peaceful marches.
