The YWCA (Young Women's Christian Association) has been operating in Belarus since 1996.
The organisation was formed after the Beijing Conference by two activists from Belarus who met with active women from the World Movement YWCA that supported their willingness to create an organisation for developing leadership of young women in Belarus and the solving problems of domestic violence.
In 1999, YWCA Belarus became a full member of the YWCA World Movement (120 countries).
Today YWCA Belarus has local organizations in 6 cities in Belarus: Bobruisk, Gomel, Minsk, Mozyr, Novopolotsk, Smorgon.
Aims and objectives:
The aim of the organization is to protect rights and legitimate interests of young women, as well as development of their personal potential.
Our objectives:
- Promoting disclosure of a personal potential of women
- Protecting rights and legitimate interests of young women
- Moral and spiritual revival of society
Main activities:
1. Development of women's leadership potential.
2. Development of programs to promote gender equality and counteract gender-based violence based on human rights and CEDAW.
